AKEAKEUSDT historical market case
Why we lookedRetrospective revision: aligning settlement, price and open-interest timestamps for September 20–21, 2026
Retrospective case review. Figures describe the stated historical window and do not represent current balances, permissions or market conditions.
Key points
- The settlement record at 09:00 UTC on September 20 specifies an hourly interval and a rate of -1.464649%. Comparison with the preceding -2% per 4 hours requires a common time unit. The negative sign means shorts paid longs.#F01F02
- Between 10:20 and 11:25 UTC, the OI quantity field fell by about 29.7% and notional value by about 64.9%. Quantity and valuation effects must be separated; the entire notional decline cannot be treated as liquidations or capital withdrawals.#F04F05
- Hourly closing prices, turnover and OI quantity changed, but these records alone cannot distinguish forced from voluntary closing or establish why settlement intervals changed.#F01F03F04F06
What this does not show
- This review covers only Binance AKEUSDT historical records for September 20–21, 2026 UTC. Files were downloaded again and SHA-256 verified on October 25, 2026. They do not describe today’s market or establish what researchers could access at the time.F01F03F04
- An hourly close belongs to the end of its entire candle. OI points retain the original create_time label. Sharing a chart axis does not establish causality.F03F04F05
- Complete contemporaneous liquidation, account, order and capital-transfer records were not obtained. Notional OI is not a cash balance, and turnover is not net inflow. Quantity units follow the source; a historical contract-unit specification was not independently obtained.F04F06
- No holder snapshots, original token-transfer events or recipient-destination data were collected anew. The previous investor/team attributions, vesting schedules and destination claims of 98%/100% retained or 0% exchange-bound are not carried forward.
- The applicable Binance rule version, announcement and execution record for the interval adjustment were not obtained. MEXC’s announcement supplies limited context and cannot establish Binance’s reason.F01F07
Not yet known
- Which Binance rule version applied to this interval change, and when did it take effect? A contemporaneous announcement or execution record is needed; settled fields alone do not explain the reason.F01
- How much of the OI quantity decline was voluntary closing versus liquidation? That requires original liquidation events or account-level records for the same interval.F04F06
- MEXC also announced hourly settlements that day. How did the actual funding and OI sequences compare across venues? Contemporaneous records are needed; current October readings cannot fill the historical gap.F01F07

Summary
This is a retrospective market case covering September 20–21, 2026, rather than a live assessment of AKE. We downloaded the official Binance archives again and checked settled funding, hourly candles and five-minute open-interest records. The September 20 settlement at 08:00 UTC records -2.0000% per 4 hours; the next record, at 09:00, records -1.464649% per 1 hour. Shorts paid longs at both settlements.
The previous report labelled two notional OI observations as 10:00 and 11:00. The original CSV labels them 10:20 and 11:25 UTC: 91.98M and 32.33M USDT. Across those same two rows, the quantity field fell by about 29.7% and notional value by about 64.9%. These are different measurements. Changes in quantity and valuation must be separated; the fall in notional OI is not a measure of capital withdrawals or liquidations.
This review did not collect new holder or token-destination data. It establishes the sequence and units in the market records, without establishing why settlement intervals changed, the identity of token beneficiaries, or a connection between the earlier report’s on-chain transfers and price changes.

Open interest by venue over time
Binance source sum_open_interest_value, using actual create_time labels at five-minute frequency, September 20–21, 2026 UTC. This is notional OI, not account cash or liquidation value. Source valuation conventions were not independently re-established.
- Binance 29.2M USDT
Funding by venue (per hour)
Settled funding rate divided by the recorded settlement interval, per hour, September 20–21, 2026 UTC. Negative means shorts pay longs. Normalization is for comparison, not a compounded return or an account’s actual payment.
Price and on-chain events
Hourly candle closes at their actual close_ms timestamps; event flags mark settlement times, not instantaneous event prices. Data covers September 20–21, 2026 UTC; no causal link is inferred.
Dashed flags mark event dates/times only; their height is not the price at the event. Price points use their supplied timestamps.

Findings
- ObservedF01The Binance AKEUSDT settlement record at 08:00 UTC on 2026-09-20 specifies a 4-hour interval; the next record at 09:00 specifies 1 hour. These are intervals reported in settled records, not proof of the contemporaneous announcement or policy activation time.#Binance funding 2026-09
- DerivedF02The 08:00 UTC settlement rate was -2.0000% per 4 hours, equivalent to -0.5000% per hour for comparison; the 09:00 UTC rate was -1.464649% per 1 hour. Shorts paid longs at both settlements. Hourly normalization is a comparison measure, not an individual account’s actual fee payment.#Binance funding 2026-09Binance funding-fee explanation
- DerivedF03The hourly candle covering 09:00–09:59:59.999 UTC closed at 0.087756 USDT; the candle covering 11:00–11:59:59.999 closed at 0.050986 USDT, a change of -41.90% between those closes. These are not instantaneous prices at the hour boundary. This review did not re-establish a 30-day high.#Binance klines 2026-09-20
- DerivedF04The previous report’s notional OI observations of 91.98M and 32.33M were actually labelled 10:20 and 11:25 UTC, 65 minutes apart, a change of -64.86%. In those same rows, the sum_open_interest quantity field fell from 841,301,166 to 591,104,515 (-29.74%). The notional change is not a measure of net capital withdrawals or liquidation value.#Binance metrics 2026-09-20
- DerivedF05Selecting the last timestamped observation within each hour gives notional OI of 43.36M USDT at 10:55 UTC and 30.59M USDT at 11:55 UTC, a change of -29.44%. The revised chart keeps actual observation times rather than selecting whichever row appears last in file order.#Binance metrics 2026-09-20
- ObservedF06Binance AKEUSDT perpetual quote turnover for 10:00–10:59:59.999 UTC was about 361.94M USDT. This is traded turnover, not net buying, capital inflow or liquidation value.#Binance klines 2026-09-20

- ReportedF07MEXC announced hourly AKEUSDT funding settlements on the same day, specifying an effective time of 08:35 UTC and listing the first subsequent settlement at 09:00 UTC. This is another venue’s contemporaneous policy announcement, not an explanation of Binance’s decision. This review did not obtain MEXC’s actual settlements or OI records.#MEXC 2026-09-20 announcement

Other explanations
Ordinary explanations for the same facts, and the evidence that would tell them apart.
| Explanation | Supporting facts | Discriminating evidence | Observed so far |
|---|---|---|---|
| The fall in notional OI involved changes in both the quantity field and valuation. | Both quantity and notional value declined between 10:20 and 11:25, by different proportions. | Align raw quantity, notional value and available valuation/contract-unit data at the same timestamps. A liquidation share requires separate event records. | The source quantity field fell by about 29.7% and notional value by about 64.9%; the forced-versus-voluntary closing split remains unknown. |
| Hourly settlement adjustments involved separate venues; a Binance-only exceptional episode is not the only possible framing. | MEXC’s same-day announcement specifies 08:35 effectiveness and hourly settlements from 09:00. | Obtain each venue’s then-effective rules, announcements, settled records and OI history; compare documented triggers and the order of events. | Binance settled fields and MEXC’s announcement are available. Without complete contemporaneous rules and market records, neither a common cause nor directional influence between venues is established. |
